From Malga Ciapela to Refuge Falier

This trip follows a picturesque route along the Val Ombretta and offers a wonderful view on the west face of the Marmolada. Along the way you can find numerous accounts of the Great War.

You arrive by car to the campsite of Malga Ciapela, go past it and after 1 km you reach a bridge with a closed bridge. Leave the car here and proceed on foot.  Go up along the mule track to the left. The beginning is pretty uphill, but continuing decreases. Arrived at the fork take the path number 698 that leads to Valley Franzedas. Turn right, still along the mule track that leads up to the beginning of Val Ombretta.

This concludes the mule track and continue on a path well marked the passing casere Ombretta Alm (1904 m). From here in about 40 minutes you  reach the Refuge to Falier. The refuge was built in 1911 and was used as a command of the 206th Company "Val Cordevole". It was destroyed by the Austrian shells during the war and rebuilt by family Falier. It  worth a visit the galleries outside that are under the shelter.
