Bock World Championship
The "Bock World Championship" in Olang is a unique
sporting event which is fascinating more and more people around the
globe. Already for the second time, talented athletes from all over
the world come to Olang to show their skills on the so-called
"Rennböckl".
The fact that even official world championships are organized in
this discipline still doesn't mean that you have to know this
unusual vehicle. A little less than a hundred years ago, the first
Rennböckl was patented in the USA. A wooden device with a seat, two
hilts and a waxed bottom should then be an alternative to the
expensive toboggans.
The first models were equipped with simple runners but nowadays
they use the latest carving skis to accelerate the Rennböckl.
Although the passionate Bock drivers from Olang weren't the first
to invent this vehicle, the idyllic village on the foothills of the
Kronplatz is
considered to be the cradle of Rennböckl sports.
Therefore, the second of March, the best drivers in the world
get together for an exciting competition. Men, women and children
are trying to set the fastest time in various categories. The
"racing class" instead, provides four riders to hit the slope
simultaneously.
But at the evening all competitive thinking is a thing from the
past. All the athletes, no matter if they won or not, will together
with the spectators, celebrate this wonderful and exciting day.
