Lienz: the pearl of the Dolomites
It is not difficult to understand why the town of Lienz,
East Tyrol, Austria, is known as the pearl of the Dolomites! The
city is not very big and is just 30 km far from the Italian border.
This gives her a unique mix of Tyrolean and Mediterranean
atmosphere.
Despite its small size, Lienz has much to offer throughout all
the year! There are numerous cultural events and attractions, as
well as the possibilities for lovers of active life!
Many of you have heard of the famous cycling track of Lienz: the
Innichen-Lienz! A
course of about 40 km, slightly downhill, suitable for families,
which offers beautiful views and lots of fun for those who decide
to follow it. Do not be intimidated by the 40 km long, the path is
completely paved and in the direction of Lienz slightly downhill,
pedaling is really a breeze and even the little ones will enjoy!
During the tour you will cross streams, pastures and typical
Tyrolean houses! Among the most popular stops, the factory of
Loacker with adjoining shop, the Galizenklamm where you can admire
the beautiful waterfalls, swimming pool and playground and park in
Sillian. Once in
Lienz you can take the train to get back, but not before doing a
lap in the center and be pampered with a delicious ice cream!
The center of Lienz is completely pedestrianized, so ideal for a
stroll to shops with children, there are several shops and
restaurants to stop for a snack!
For culture lovers, in Lienz you will find the castle Bruck and
the fortress Tammerburg, inside of which are also organized events
such as concerts and exhibitions.
We recommend to visiting Lienz not only in the summer! In
winter, in the main square holds the charming Christmas
market, in typical Tyrolean style with stalls with local
crafts in wood and wool, candles, nativity scenes and of course
great food stands where you can enjoy a sandwich with sausage, a
good beer or mulled wine!
Lienz will surprise you in every season of the year!
