Terenten – holidays in sunny village
In any case, its title "sunny village" is justifiable.
Terenten is located in the "lower" Pustertal Valley, but not on the
valley floor, but on about 1,200 m above sea level on a wonderful
alpine plateau - which is much sunnier than many places in South
Tyrol.
Bright sunshine, you can nearly touch the sky and towards
southeast you will have a breathtaking view to the Dolomites. With
such scenery it is no wonder that people have settled here
already in primeval times. Terenten therefore has a very
long and eventful history: from a prehistoric settlement through a
rural mountain village to a pretty holiday resort in the
vicinity of the Kronplatz, with more than 1,200
guest beds.
By the way: The name Terenten derives from the Latin word
"torrentum" that means torrent. Allegedly the first settlement was
situated along the banks of a rushing stream.
Modern hotel complexes, but also nice apartments, cozy
guesthouses and rustic farms ensure that you will come to know
country and people. Especially nature lovers and passionate
hikers will
be more than glad, because many possibilities are waiting for them:
For example pleasant tours on a nature trail, to the earthy
pyramids or through the biotope "Pirchner Moos"; or the popular
walking-trip to the refuge Tiefrastenhütte or the challenging
mountain tour to the top of the Eidechsspitze.
But there are as well available many other
sports: from tennis, horse riding and biking to sledging,
cross-country skiing and skiing on
the Kronplatz. And a tip for gourmets: Every
year from August to October, the so called "s'Terner Schmelzpfandl"
provides you with traditional delicacies and rural specialties.
Terenten: experience and enjoy!
