Holidays in Hochpustertal - East Tyrol

Just on the border between Italy and Austria, after the towns of Innichen and Vierschach, lies a valley connecting Italy and Austria and offers breathtaking views for mountain lovers, fairy-tale villages and many opportunities for lovers of active life! We're talking of Hochpustertal in East Tyrol, a resort area that extends between the Lienz Dolomites and South Tyrol.

The biggest center is Sillian with its 2000 inhabitants, and its 1200 beds. Other places very nice are Heinfels, Strassen, Abfaltersbach and Anras. The place is ideal for family holidays, for the many opportunities it provides and for the particular characteristics of the territory. Even the bikers will have a lot 'of routes available to test their endurance while admiring breathtaking views!

Among the most known and appreciated paths in the valley that of Gail and the cycle path along the Drau that takes to Lienz. Do not miss the beautiful huts in Villgraten.

If you prefer the winter holidays, however, the East Tyrol offers three ski areas. The largest is Thurntaler, in Sillian with its 45 km of ski runs of all levels. The other two ski areas are those of Obertilliach and Kartitsch, ideal for those starting out on skis and do not want to spend too much on the lifts. In Kartisch, from the town center, the ski lift takes you on the slopes also at night.

Cross-country skiers, however, have access to the slopes of the valley of Gail between Kartitsch and Untertilliach. Over 120 km of groomed trails and a new center for cross country skiing and biathlon in Obertilliach, with cross-country trails and shooting range.

The Hochpustertal/East Tyrol, not only offers opportunities for sports enthusiasts and nature, even those of you still want to visit some culture will have something really interesting to see how the Anras castle (Schloß Anras) with its Prison museum and where there is also a permanent exhibition of Paul Flora and temporary exhibitions of contemporary artists and the Fortress of Heinfels (Burg Heinfels), that during the summer, in the weeks devoted to Gustav Mahler, becomes a stage for concerts.

The excellent local cuisine, the atmosphere and Tyrolean hospitality will make you spend unforgettable holidays all year round!
